A little bit about Rio

Rio Staff Member

Name: Rio

Disciplines: Snowboard, Freestyle Snowboard

Position: Instructor

I have been a Snowboard Instructor for 7 years, teaching both indoors here at Snow Factor for the past 4 years and in Canada during my 4 winter seasons spent in Vancouver. During this time I have gained experience teaching all ages and abilities, including freestyle lessons and gained both CASI Level 1 & 2 and CASI Park Level 1 & 2 instructor qualifications.

I’ve also spent some time coaching in a ladies specific freestyle programme developed by Snowsport Scotland and a freestyle progression team at Mount Seymour in Vancouver. While in Mount Seymore, I was also a school lesson coordinator in the snow school which involved supervising and organising instructors for large school groups to ensure the lessons ran smoothly each day.

I love snowboarding in my spare time and am constantly trying to improve my own riding style and freestyle ability. There is no better feeling than landing a trick you’ve been working on and feeling that sense of achievement.

Teaching level 1 lessons are my favourite, whether that’s boarding or freestyle. It’s amazing to be able to introduce people to snowboarding as a new hobby and see them realise just how much fun it is or land their first trick and share that experience with them.

Qualifications & Experience

  • CASI Level 2 Snowboard
  • CASI Park Level 2 Snowboard
  • Resident Ladies Freestyle Snowboard Coach
  • All round office extraordinaire who keeps the slope team in check!

What Rio’s students said about her on Trip Advisor

“I have had 3 lessons this month with 3 different instructors ( Esme, Rio and a one other that I’m sorry but can’t remember his name) each one has been fantastic. They have each been very patient and encouraging and made me feel as much at ease on the slope as was possible. Each lesson was different in its own way but I came away each time feeling that I had accomplished something. I had always wanted to snowboard and my weight tended to put me off trying it but now I wish I had done it years ago. Thank you very much.”

Favourite Piece of Equipment

My new Helmet Hood it keeps you super warm… or actually my Anon goggles, I love those too. They have magnetic lenses on them which I really like.

Favourite Resort

Mount Seymore in Canada – it’s where I’ve spent most of my time.
