Instructor Tips for New Snowboarders

Your snowboard career is just beginning...

If you are looking for a few tips on what to work on after you have completed your level 5 lesson, this is what we recommend:

  1. Make sure to close of your turns and head all the way across the slope instead of straight down the hill. This will help to keep you in control and also make the most of your run on the hill.
  2. CHALLENGE: Aim for at least 12 completed turns down the main slope.
  3. If you feel like your back foot is working harder than your front then try to shift your weight towards the front foot to start your next turn as this will also give you more control.
  4. Always remember the main aim; to get your snowboard to slide down the hill. If you lean back too much, you’ll just get left behind and the board will try to go without you.
  5. Have fun with it!

What’s next? Feeling a wee bit adventurous?

Why not try a little bit of a freestyle?! Don’t let the term freestyle intimidate you, freestyle starts with learning how to control your board and building confidence.

In our freestyle lessons, we start with teaching you how to ride your board straight (without catching an edge and falling…),  how to pop, how to nose & tail press (which you have probably done already without realising!) how to ollie AND we’ll get you to hit your first freestyle feature.

When can you do freestyle lessons?

  • Every Wednesday we run formal freestyle lessons from 6-9pm. Learn more HERE.
